In this movie, Professor Owen Gingerich - Historian of Astronomy at Harvard University - is the main expert which narrates the film which reviews some of the greatest advents, discoveries and endeavor of scientists, up to the 1980s, to build larger and larger telescopes and observatory domes such as the Leviathan Parksonstown in Ireland, the 200-inch in Palomar, New Mexico.

In addition, we might also come to learn about the discoveries of variable stars and quasars and the emerge of radio astronomy in the 19th century - which played an important role, alongside with optical astronomy, in detecting further and larger cosmic objects away from Our Galaxy - in other words, in the continuing challenge of reaching "Beyond our own Milky Way"
